WELCOME TO DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS

Welcome to the Department of Statistics, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria. The Department is located in the new facility of the College of Physical and Applied Sciences (COLPAS). This Department is one of the foremost training centres for Statisticians in Nigeria and indeed Africa. Our student population cuts across all the six Geo-Political zones of the country. Our staff strength is also formidable. We engage in teaching, research and community services. Our teaching and research interests cover almost all aspects of statistics and other related areas.

The philosophy of the department centers on nurturing students to become individuals who can think critically, generate ideas, develop theories, interpret data, and apply statistical sciences effectively in all aspects of life. The department is distinguished by faculty members who excel in both research and teaching across a range of fields, including Bayesian Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, Demography, Design of Experiments, Distribution Theory, Economic and Social Statistics, Econometrics, Environmental Statistics, Industrial Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Medical Statistics, Multivariate Statistics, Non-Parametric Statistics, Operations Research and Management Science, Probability Theory and Stochastic Modelling, Sampling Theory and Survey Methods, Time Series Analysis, and so on.
